I began my career as a molecular biologist looking at the genetics of learning and memory but have shifted my focus to understanding how humans learn. I am interested in both translating the science of learning into effective pedagogical practice and developing independent learning strategies for college age and adult learners.

For the later aim, I am currently researching how purposeful reflection can influence independent learning strategies. Through both short-term and long-term reflective interventions, I hope to discover if there are techniques that students could realistically incorporate into their independent study to become most efficient and effective learners. I am also investigating the impact of the transition to remote learning during the Coronavirus pandemic on student learning.

I am passionate about my own teaching. My goal is to help my students succeed not only by attaining high grades but also by learning skills and ways of thinking that will help them thrive in their future endeavors.
