Laura Musgrave is a digital anthropology and user experience researcher, studying the relationship between people and online technology. She helps organisations to build and use emerging technologies and artificial intelligence in a socially-responsible way.
Laura's research specialism is responsible artificial intelligence (AI), particularly data and privacy. She was named one of 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics™ for 2022.
AI is increasingly – and often invisibly – embedded in technology used in daily life. This offers opportunities for human society, yet also raises concerns about obvious and obscured risks. In Laura's previous work on the exchange of privacy and convenience in the use of smart speakers in the UK, she observed a major gap between principles of data privacy, and the real-life experiences of participants. As a result, she became passionate about maximising the benefits of AI, and reducing the risk of harms. This is at the core of her work towards socially-responsible AI today.
Laura's website gives details on her talks, conference panels and work in this field.
