Despite the growing presence of prisons in American society, little is known about the challenges experienced by correctional officers (CO’s); specifically, little research has investigated how their intermediary status between inmates and facility/prison management can result in role conflict
Therefore, my interest lies within the prison walls; the officer vis-a-vis the inmate, the administration. I would travel onsite to various prison facilities and interview officers concerning their day-to-day job interactions (coworker, inmate, administration) and attempt to uncover the inter-workings of the inline correctional officer(s) within the maximum and medium security prison setting.
Again, little research has been consummated within the area(s)in which I describe. I feel this area of inquiry would help criminal justice professionals better understand the prison and the correctional officer, in which are/is the lifeblood of any facility.
