Christopher H. Punzalan currently studies a graduate degree, Master of Arts in Science Education with specialization in Integrated Science, at Philippine Normal University, the Philippines’ National Center for Teacher Education. He received his undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Technical Teacher Education and Diploma in Power Plant Engineering Technology from Technological University of the Philippines at Cavite. Punzalan is a Licensed Professional Teacher and a holder of Career Service Sub Professional Eligibility in the Philippines. In line with his professional background, he presently teaches Research and Sciences courses in higher and basic education institutions. He also held position as Science Laboratory Technician that activated his interests in science areas, especially environmental science.
His graduate education has positively enriched his knowledge and skills in undertaking scholarly works. Punzalan has participated and presented a number of studies in local and international research conferences. His desire to environmental education research has given him the opportunities to meet and collaborate with other professionals in a global context. The idea of empowering the environmental education in the Philippines has turned into actions which lead him to universities and institutions in the Philippines and even in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, his research interests fall on environmental education (EE), education for sustainable development (ESD) and green innovations. As a researcher, he looks for approaches to enhance the integration of environmental education in the curricula. He practices the situated learning and community-based learning (CBL) by organizing extended classroom activities including tree planting program, museum tour, and science and technology exhibition, to name a few. With the ideas of the mentioned theories, he plans to conduct research projects inclined with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as quality education and climate action. He is also a volunteer of non profit environmental organizations and disaster response group responsible in ecological and humanitarian works.
